#1 Pilot: Aired Tuesday, September 22, 1998

J.J., a representative of the network, is concerned about the show and tries to make changes over producer Dana's head. Casey is in a bad mood because he's getting a divorce and it's showing on the air. Dana yells at him and Casey thinks about leaving. Dana hires Natalie's first pick for the associate producer job, a passionate man named Jeremy. Natalie also thinks he's cute. A sports miracle helps renew Casey's faith in what he does.

#2 The Apology: Aired Tuesday, September 29, 1998

Dan is written up in "Esquire" and gives the impression that he supports the legalization of marijuana. The network bigwigs insist on an on-air apology, and he ends up telling the story of his brother who died because he emulated Dan's drug habits. Natalie admits she has "feelings" for Jeremy. Jeremy can't make a news spot short enough. Natalie gets Dana thinking romantically about Casey. Casey thinks that Dan's magazine article make him seem "not cool."

#3 The Hungry and the Hunted: Aired Tuesday, October 6, 1998

Jeremy gets "the call" and produces a segment on outdoor activities, but it turns out he has a big problem with hunting. Isaac tells him to speak up more, because even though he might not fit in other places, he fits in at Sports Night. Casey becomes jealous when Dana goes to a formal party looking fabulous and on the arm of another man.

Casey stresses about Dana dating Gordon and is being hunted by a phantom fly. Dan finds out that the song "Happy Birthday" is not in the public domain.

A famous football player with a bad reputation agrees to appear on the show. When Natalie meets him in his locker room for a pre-interview, he exposes himself to her and grabs her arm. Dana makes the difficult decision of having him not appear on the show after all, and Natalie, after initially trying to be heroically silent, decides to press charges.

#6 The Head Coach, Dinner and the Morning Mail: Aired Tuesday, October 27, 1998

Natalie goes through with pressing charges. She finds it hard to focus when she becomes the target of the media and hate mail from sports fans. Jeremy can't sleep because he's trying to protect Natalie. Dana recommends to Jeremy that he ask Natalie out to dinner. Jeremy tries to find the perfect place to take Natalie to dinner and ends up making a picnic in the office, but falls into a much needed deep sleep before they can eat. Dana continues to date Gordon and Casey continues to deny his jealousy.

Dana is nervous because her family, particularly her mother, is coming to New York for Thanksgiving. She practices thawing her frozen turkey on the light grid of the show. There are complications with the birth of Isaac's first grandchild. It is the anniversay of Dan and Casey's first broadcast together, and Dan can't figure out why Casey isn't more enthusiastic. The ghost of Thespis is causing mischief on the set.

#9 The Quality of Mercy at 29K: Aired Tuesday, December 1, 1998

The show is following two guys climbing Mt. Everest. Dan is trying to find a worthy charity to which to donate money, and ends up meeting one in his own office. Natalie and Jeremy finally admit their feeling for each other. Although they decide to keep their relationship completely out of work, they're already having trouble. A skeptical Dana goes to see "The Lion King" and discovers a love for the theater that she never knew she had. Everyone is starving and no restaurants will deliver because a water main breaks outside the office.
